September 9, 2021 - One decade... be present.

It’s been a decade since I got sick. I didn’t know then, that night, that my life was dramatically changed. I’ve done therapies, and they’ve...

May 31, 2019 consistently notice success - count those baby steps

I realized it's been quite a while since I wrote a list of accomplishments. I said once that lists are boring, but I've also said that every single little step matters.  I know all my therapists would agree, & James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits (which I'm currently listening to) would as well.

so, in no particular order -

-writing out a check

-addressing an envelope

-filling out taxi coupons

-holding Cosmo's leash on his daily afternoon walk

-watching challenging vids on YT

-on most days, shortening my rest period a bit, so it's mainly downtime to do some breathing & Feldenkrais

-adding the Infinity Walk (basically an intentional figure 8) to my morning therapy routine

-showing up consistently for my therapies

-doing 5 or 6 outings in a week more regularly

-this past week doing 2 outings in 2 days, IN A ROW!

-adjusting to prescription sunglasses

-adjusting to prisms in my reading glasses

-Moments when I told myself to appreciate what I had just done

-filling in the spaces in the letters of the Consistent sign - more precision.

-writing a note while standing at kitchen counter, instead of always sitting down

I'm going to figure out a system - simple, daily -  so I consistently notice ANY success, & have it to look at when I'm feeling blah.

May 17th, 2019 A special request

I have a special request - below is a link to a Change.org petition that is personal -

"Goal
We aim to give vestibular / neurovestibular patients a better chance for swift and accurate diagnosis, a cure or appropriate treatment. We ask for a worldwide agreement on education of medical students, further training for existing specialists and the establishment of medical guidelines regarding vestibular conditions / disorders. "

It took me almost a year to get my migraine associated vertigo diagnosis, & another year to get my convergence insufficiency diagnosis.  Another few years to get my PTSD Dx.

It shouldn't have taken so long, & yet I'm extremely fortunate to have gotten the correct diagnoses, & now to be able to get appropriate treatment. Not everyone is as fortunate, & that needs to change!

Please click on the link below for petition, & sign it if you haven't yet! If you have already signed, PLEASE SHARE! Even if you've previously shared, I'd so appreciate your sharing it again... e-mail it to friends... and Thank You!

May 14th, 2019 - my birthday wish

My birthday is coming up this week, & it would make my day if you either donate (every dollar counts) or spread the word about the vestibular disorders Association - www.vestibular.org - VeDA!

To my knowledge, they're the only organization fully devoted to vestibular disorders – including traumatic brain injury, vision, and everything else connected with the balance system…

A small, but dedicated and hard-working and devoted staff - so deserving of support -

Thank you!

May 2nd, 2019 gaining some independence… Progress

Ta dah! OK, I know they LOOK like regular readers (though I think you can tell that they're tinted) but they're actually now with prisms! :-) so now it's adjustment time...

AND I'm filling out my taxi coupons myself now.... I'm going to do 2 things tomorrow, which will be the 2nd time I've done that in a day... taking care of myself is still - is always - a priority, but self-care & progress can happen.
